Anabiosis, 2019

Anabiosis is a hopeless effort of reviving an already dead tree to visually find it upright and alive again. A cut tree trunk was found and carried to my studio, Then a frame that more or less resembles the trees’ height was made. Then the tree was installed inside the frame roughly at the same height that it was before when alive. The two empty spaces on both ends of the frame are the missing parts. Anabiosis is a biological term that applies when an organism is brought back to life after apparent death through a medical process. This sculpture has been on display at the entrance of the UVic Visual Arts Department since 2019.
